Who Will Replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea?

After the finishing in the top six and qualifying for Europa League, it has been decided, through mutual agreement, that Mauricio Pochettino will be leaving the club. Players and fans are shocked but not surprised given the track record under the reign of Todd Boehly and Co. This marks the fifth manager to leave the club, since the 2022 takeover. Conversations and rumors have been swirling around about who will be taking Pochettino's place. It will be interesting to see which promising or seasoned manager is brave or proud enough to contend with the complicated mess that is the Chelsea ownership. This article will be exploring the top six managers expected to be in the running for the job.

1. Roberto De Zerbi

One manager who has been repeatedly linked with Chelsea over the season has been Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi, formerly of Brighton. His time at Brighton has come to an end after the 23/24 season, but fans are concerned with his inconsistency over the last year. While his two seasons at Brighton were remarkable for their standards, Chelsea is a different beast with a massive budget and even greater expectations. We saw what happened when the last Brighton manager, Graham Potter, attempted to take on the Blue Lions. While pundits declare De Zerbi as the favorite to take over at Stamford Bridge, there has also been interest from AC Milan and Man United, who are also on the hunt for a new gaffer. As of yet, De Zerbi says he is not attached to any big club, but he has expressed his desire to continue in the Premiere League.

2. Thomas Tuchel

The former Chelsea boss who led the Blue Lions to their last UEFA title and was a casualty to the forced sale to Todd Boehly and Co. Thomas Tuchel has recently parted ways with Bayern Munich after falling below expectations for the Bavarian giants. While he helped them secure the Bundesliga title last season, they fell seven points behind Xabi Alonso's phenomenal Leverkusen squad and were eliminated earlier than expected from the UEFA Champions League. Rumor has it Bayern Munich have reached a verbal agreement with Vincent Kompany, the former Man City legend and Burnley manager, to take over as manager for next season. Given Tuchel's disagreements with Boehly in the past, it looks more likely for Tuchel to sign with Manchester United.

3. Ruben Amorim

My personal preferred choice to take over the squad is the 39-year-old Portuguese manager of Sporting CP, Ruben Amorim. He has led them to two Portuguese league titles, but Sporting CP has warned Chelsea that they have no desire to depart with Amorim over the summer. West Ham have also expressed interest in the Portuguese manager. Chelsea has young squad that can connect with the 39-year-old who has proven himself on the pitch as a player and now as a title-winning manager.

4. Kieran McKenna

Kieran McKenna has recently promoted Ipswich from League One to Premiere League in two seasons, so he has recently compiled interest from multiple top-tier clubs. Brighton is also keen on the 38-year-old former Manchester United assistant coach. Ipswich is also hoping to keep him on to help them survive relegation like previously promoted Burnley. I believe Brighton would be a better club for the young boss to find his footing in the EPL. If we have learned anything from Frank Lampard and Steven Gerard, a top-of-the-table club in the EPL is not the place to develop a young coach. Brighton have been more successful recently, but they are a growing club. Let McKenna show that he can handle a Premiere Leage squad and Chelsea can observe him closely.

5. Sebastian Hoeness

Stuttgart boss and former German footballer, Sebastian Hoeness has recently made the Chelsea shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino. He has taken VFB Stuttgart form relegation zone to the top four of the highly competitive Bundesliga. His experience with the 4-2-3-1 formation could help the Blue Lions prevent conceding 63 goals.

As the seasons come to an end around Europe, the shortlist will grow. It is disappointing that Chelsea let go of Pochettino after one season. I really wanted to see what a second season under the same manager would be. I hope the next boss can unite the team quicker now that they have more experience and confidence together. The club is going to need some wisdom with Silva leaving. Strong and united leadership is needed to the Bridge more than ever. Find out what happens here when Chelsea selects a new boss.
